Working alongside Ssangyong Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd., WSP will provide mechanical and electrical consultancy services for the new Tengah General and Community Hospital, commissioned by Singapore’s Ministry of Health. The 1,534-bed acute and community care campus will comprise three basement levels and nine floors above ground, with design and construction scheduled for the early 2030s. Once completed, the hospital will be operated by the National University Health System and will serve the growing healthcare needs of Singapore’s rapidly developing western region.
The project will be the first public hospital delivered through a design-and-build model with Early Contractor Engagement, establishing a benchmark for future public hospital projects across the country. It will also be the first public hospital in Singapore to apply a modular approach to space planning and use, helping to streamline design and approval process and support faster delivery.
The modular approach will be supported by standardised design and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly principles, incorporating advanced off-site construction methods, including prefabrication and multi-trade integrated mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, to enhance efficiency, quality and sustainability throughout project delivery.
Drawing on its technical expertise, integrated approach and experience of complex healthcare environments, WSP will support the delivery of an efficient, resilient and sustainable hospital campus. The appointment reflects the confidence placed in WSP’s Singapore team and strengthens the firm’s contribution to future-ready healthcare infrastructure that will serve communities for generations to come.
