Clean Energy for a Million Households

The Poseidon offshore wind farm is part of a larger push to have 100% renewable electricity production by 2040 in Sweden.

  4. Poseidon Offshore Wind Farm

Vattenfall and Zephyr, two Nordic leaders in renewable energy, are planning an offshore wind farm on the west coast of Sweden, in the southern Skagerrak/northern Kattegat region about 40 km northwest of Gothenburg.

They are applying for a permit for the Poseidon offshore wind farm. According to estimates, the proposed wind farm will have a maximum of 94 turbines with floating foundations, possibly the first in Sweden. The project will generate approximately 5.5 TWh of electricity per year, or nearly 4% of Sweden's electricity consumption, supplying about 1 million households.

As part of the permitting process, WSP is responsible for preparing the environmental impact assessment and supporting studies for the establishment of the wind farm under Sweden’s Economic Zone Act (SEZ) and the internal cable network under the Continental Shelf Act (KSL) as well as supporting the client during all stages of the permitting processes.

Our assignment includes providing strategic support to Zephyr and Vattenfall. WSP will continue to support the client in the next phases of the project.

Achieved milestones

In December 2022, an application for a wind farm permit under the SEZ and KSL Acts was submitted to the Swedish government. WSP was responsible for preparing the environmental impact assessment for both application processes and is continuing to give strategic support to the client during all stages of the permitting process.
