Safran is the world leader in landing and braking systems for airplanes and helicopters, through its subsidiary Safran Landing System (formerly Messier-Bugatti-Dowty).
Malaysia, a promising player in the aviation industry when it comes to air traffic and industrial development, quickly became the preferred location for Safran Landing Systems' new production site.
In 2016, a new-generation carbon brake manufacturing plant was established in the Sendayan Tech Valley Industrial Zone.
Created to supply mainly on Asian airlines, this state-of-the-art industrial equipment, which is engineered, supplied and constructed by WSP in France, includes complete carbon braking systems.
Lighter than their steel counterparts, they were required to be installed on airliners at the end of the 1980s to improve economic performance.
The building has five specific departments: carbon fibre preforming; carbonization and densification by gaseous infiltration; carbon mould machining; disk protection by oxidation inhibition; and used heat sink reconditioning.
The first phase of the project was completed in 2014, just two years after the studies began.
