The Need for an EOR Development Framework

As the role of the Engineer of Record (EOR) and other critical industry roles (RTFE/ITRB) continue to evolve, so too must the way we develop and support current and future professionals. Recognizing the growing complexity of the EOR role, driven by the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) and broader societal expectations, WSP has developed an internal competency framework to address this critical skills shortage and support on-the-job development of tailings engineers.

While this framework strengthens our own teams, we believe there’s significant value in establishing an industry-wide approach. By aligning across mining companies and service providers, WSP believes the industry can elevate the practice and ensure a consistent, high-quality standard for EORs globally and provide a path that could be adopted for other critical industry roles.
