This case study details the environmental studies conducted following the spill of a highly concentrated foaming liquid containing Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) that was accidentally released into an ephemeral creek after entering a stormwater drain. 

The $15 million Portsmith landfill closure project, one of Queensland's largest regional waste disposal facilities, was managed by the Cairns Regional Council (Council), designed by WSP Associates Pty Ltd (WSP) and built by BMD Constructions.

This project illustrates several success factors in PFAS analysis and mitigation, particularly the value of having a three-dimensional conceptual site model to determine the pathways and receptors, and to provide information for choosing mitigation methods.

As part of WSP’s role as lead designer of Old Oak Common station, we delivered the urban realm strategy alongside partners to support the station’s role as a catalyst for reimagining a new West London neighbourhood in Old Oak and Park Royal.

Southwestern Illinois faced a critical threat when FEMA announced the deaccreditation of its Mississippi River levees in 2007, risking severe economic and safety consequences. The region, home to over 156,000 residents and significant infrastructure, required urgent levee system upgrades to maintain flood protection and economic stability.
