Feasibility Study For New Food Ingredient Manufacturing Plant

WSP is conducting a feasibility study to enable the construction of a new food ingredient manufacturing plant in Southern Ontario, Canada. Our confidential client is prioritizing sustainability, with a focus on minimizing energy and water consumption and carbon emissions.

Currently, our client operates two facilities within a few kilometers of each other. The primary facility manufactures the base ingredient then delivers it by bulk truck to the second facility, the food grade plant. Here, two food grade ingredients are produced for use in a variety of products such as soft drinks, baked goods, and confectionary items.

This feasibility study involves conceptual design for increasing capacity of the food grade plant and relocating it to the same site as the primary manufacturing to reduce trucking, take advantage of synergies in utility services and capture any waste heat/energy not currently utilized at the primary plant.

Innovation

Along with the increase in production capacity, the client will upgrade technologies to state of the art to ensure minimum energy input and maximum yield. The client has prioritized sustainability with a mandate to capture any waste heat/energy, reduce/recycle water within the process, treat and reduce wastewater discharged and incorporate any green technologies that are feasible for the site such as solar panels, geothermal heating/cooling, and others.

Our services

WSP has been retained to provide process, mechanical, architectural, structural, civil and electrical assistance to complete the conceptual design and capital cost estimate for the new facility on this brownfield site. WSP will also develop full P&IDs for the process to prepare for the Detailed Design Phase. The facility will be approximately 5000 SM and include offices, shops, warehouse, process and packaging.
