1. What did you enjoy the most about working at WSP during your internship?
The most outstanding thing about my internship was the culture. People were incredibly supportive, nurturing, and embracing. There was no pushy approach; instead, it was all about pulling each other up. Even during busy times, colleagues took the time to help with questions or tasks. These small acts made my internship exceptionally enjoyable. Moreover, WSP do care about employees and try their best to accommodate their employees. The company is very open for any feedback, so people are indeed heard. I hope more companies would be like WSP.
2. What was the most valuable aspect of your internship experience, and why?
When I joined WSP, I had clear goals in mind. As a computer science student, I aimed to enhance my technical skills, particularly in programming, while gaining insights into corporate work. WSP provided me with the perfect opportunity to achieve both. The internship exceeded my expectations—I received tasks aligned with my career goals and had the freedom to choose. I felt heard and valued.
3. How did you interpret the culture of inclusion and diversity at WSP?
During my internship, I observed an inclusive and diverse culture at WSP. As a practicing Muslim, I initially worried about finding a place for my daily prayers. However, WSP’s HR and Admin were incredibly helpful and supportive. They allowed me to use small meeting rooms for my prayers. Furthermore, my colleagues actively sought to learn about my culture, making me feel welcomed and safe.
4. What skills did you learn or improve upon during your internship?
During my internship, I encountered the brick scheme, a concept I hadn’t heard of before. Swiftly grasping these new ideas was crucial for programming tasks. I learned that critical thinking and logical reasoning helped me ask the right questions and understand the underlying concepts. This skill was especially valuable when working on tight deadlines.
5. How did your mentor/supervisor provide guidance and support throughout your internship?
My supervisor provided exceptional support from day one of my internship. He introduced me to the team, helped me acclimate to the workplace, and generously shared career advice. Our insightful conversations were invaluable, and he welcomed feedback openly. Isaac also ensured I had the necessary resources. I consider myself fortunate to have worked under his supervision.
