Green Monday started as an advocacy platform for plant-based lifestyles before expanding into catering, distribution and production. In 2018 the group created OmniPork, a product made from soybeans, mushrooms, brown rice and peas, that is rapidly gaining popularity throughout China as a meatless alternative to pork.
To meet increasing demand, Green Monday is setting up its first plant-based food factory, with a total GFA of approximately 8,000m2, in two existing factory buildings located in the Yangxi county of Guangdong.
The timescale of the project is extremely challenging, with a target duration of just 13 months from WSP’s engagement as project manager to completion and commissioning of the facility. At the start of the project we formulated a master schedule and a procurement strategy as well as creating a team structure to facilitate the rapid delivery of the project. For optimum speed and efficiency we recommended that a Design & Build contract be adopted to execute the design and works concurrently. To further assist in speed of delivery while ensuring the quality of site works and safety, we arranged for additional site supervision staff to conduct their quality control activities outside of normal working hours, such as during the night and at weekends.
Completion of the plant-based food factory within this ambitious time frame will enable Green Monday to meet their rapid expansion and future business development plans in the short term. For the long term, the company aims to acquire a site to develop a new factory as customer demand continues to grow for healthier and more sustainable alternatives to meat.
