Johns Hopkins Health – Sibley Memorial Hospital – Tower Addition

The new hospital’s inviting environment highlights artwork, sculptures, family-friendly lounges and concierge service. The new facility includes 200 all-private rooms, including 18 labor and delivery suites, a special care nursery, an orthopedic floor with its own rehabilitation gym, and four new state-of-the-art operating rooms (two general and two C-section). The design focuses on patient safety and infection control through bacteria resistant doors and seamless floors and walls. The all-private rooms include sleeper sofas for visitors as well as bright and spacious family lounges on each floor. In addition to its many patient care features, the building has environmentally friendly green roofs.

Two floors of the new tower are designated to women’s and infants’ services with features and amenities to provide exceptional comfort. The floors include 18 private labor, delivery and recovery rooms, 50 private postpartum rooms, two C-section operating rooms, 18 private special care nursery rooms, including six rooms that can accommodate twin births, advanced infant security system, a dedicated lactation area and lounge area, and maternal fetal medicine services for high-risk pregnancies.

The Institute for Bone and Joint Health has a dedicated orthopedic floor providing a full rehabilitation clinic. The Institute provides advanced medical technology in its operating suites, including high-definition video allowing for the most minimally invasive surgical techniques, a dedicated rehabilitation gym, and a full kitchen and bath for comprehensive occupational therapy.

The new tower houses the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, expanding advanced oncology services on the Sibley campus. The Cancer Center includes physicians from the world-renowned Johns Hopkins Hospital system and a radiation oncology facility that provides leading-edge therapies, enhanced vitals/phlebotomy space that features eight bays/stations, and an infusion center with 34 private rooms with color therapy.

Sibley’s new Emergency Department is designed to provide fast, expert and convenient care. It features the largest permanent decontamination facility in the area, a new fast-track area and all-private treatment rooms.

Our team provided the mechanical and electrical engineering design services for the addition as well as the MEP system infrastructure to support the building. The new chilled water plant and heating hot water boilers provide cooling and heating for the new tower and are sized to be expandable and accommodate the balance of the hospital campus in the future. New domestic water hot water heating equipment, medical gas systems, custom fabricated air handling units, an emergency generator plant, and normal and emergency power distribution systems serve the new addition. The patient room headwalls and the corridor MEP racks for the building were premanufactured/assembled off site and shipped to the site for modular installation.
