Fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the Riyadh Metro is redefining mobility for generations to come. WSP, as the lead firm in a joint venture with Hill International, provided program and construction management services in the new metro system. The Riyadh Metro is the Kingdom’s first-ever metro system, spanning 176 km across six lines and 85 stations, integrating underground, elevated, and at-grade sections.

As a cornerstone of the Green Riyadh initiative, the metro marks a generational leap toward sustainable urban mobility in one of the region’s most congested cities. Through comprehensive project management, spanning design, construction oversight, stakeholder engagement, and system handover, WSP used BIM and geotechnical analytics to mitigate underground construction risks in a highly dense urban setting.

WSP combines international rail experience with deep regional knowledge. Our teams have contributed to metro, light rail, passenger rail and complex transport infrastructure projects worldwide while helping shape the next generation of mobility programmes across the Middle East.

High Speed Two (HS2) is a new standard for rail travel in the UK, with high-capacity trains dramatically reducing journey times between key cities and boosting capacity for the existing network. Since 2012, WSP has been HS2’s consultant for the development of railway systems, operations, maintenance, construction planning and land referencing services, and is currently developing, in partnership with other organisations, the design of the new HS2 Euston, Old Oak Common and Curzon Street stations.

In the Middle East, WSP has helped deliver some of the region's most transformative rail programmes. On Doha Metro Phase 1, a landmark component of Qatar's national rail programme, WSP provided strategic programme management while embedding senior specialists within Qatar Rail to support governance, procurement, stakeholder coordination and project delivery.

An unprecedented fully underground metro system to the region, and a delivery model that enabled the network to be completed in support of Qatar's FIFA World Cup 2022 ambitions. Through innovative approaches to construction, programme management and risk mitigation, the project transformed mobility in Doha and established a new benchmark for large-scale rail delivery in the Middle East.
