WASHINGTON, D.C., August 10, 2026 — In recognition of his commitment to advancing career opportunities and leadership within the transportation industry, Joe Sczurko, WSP U.S. region president, received the Board Chair’s Leadership Award from the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO).
“Joe leads by example. He is visible, engaged and deeply committed to advancing our industry,” said Tanya Adams, immediate past board chair of COMTO. “Whether participating in conferences, supporting important conversations or championing opportunities for future transportation professionals, he consistently demonstrates the kind of thoughtful, collaborative leadership that strengthens COMTO and the transportation community as a whole.”
The award was presented during COMTO’s 55th National Meeting and Training Conference, held July 25-28 in Washington, D.C.
The Board Chair’s Leadership Award is not an annual honor. It is presented at the discretion of COMTO’s board chair to individuals whose leadership and commitment have made a meaningful impact on the transportation industry and on COMTO’s mission.
Adams cited Sczurko’s leadership since joining WSP in 2022 and his consistent engagement with COMTO and the broader transportation community. She noted his visible support of the organization, participation in industry discussions and commitment to strengthening connections among public agencies, private-sector partners and transportation professionals.
“I am honored to receive this recognition from COMTO,” Sczurko said. "COMTO plays a vital role in strengthening the transportation industry by bringing together diverse voices, investing in future leaders and creating opportunities for meaningful collaboration. I am proud of WSP’s partnership with the organization and grateful to work alongside so many dedicated professionals who are shaping the future of transportation."
He added that the award reflects the collective efforts of WSP professionals across the country who actively support COMTO’s mission through volunteer leadership, mentorship and scholarship programs.
