In addition to replacing aging infrastructure, the project also delivered new tracks, third rail power systems, signal and communications infrastructure, improved lighting beneath the viaduct, increased roadway clearances at select intersections, a dedicated maintenance walkway for railroad personnel and enhancements designed to reduce noise and vibration in the surrounding East Harlem community.
"The Park Avenue Viaduct Replacement Project demonstrates what can be achieved through innovation, collaboration and disciplined project delivery," said Garry Nunes, senior vice president, East construction management director, WSP in the U.S. “Our team worked side by side with the MTA to help deliver this critical investment, and it reflects our long-standing commitment to helping the MTA modernize, expand and renew its transportation network.”
Across New York City's transit and commuter rail network, WSP continues to support the MTA through program management, engineering, construction management, public outreach, planning and technical advisory services, delivering long-term value for riders and the communities the transportation system serves.
