Located at the Keystone Sanitary landfill in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, this landfill-to-gas facility is the highest capacity operational Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) facility in the United States. Archaea expects to reduce landfill CO2 emissions by more than 200,000 metric tons annually and air pollutant reduction of up to 90%.
Combining gas flows from the Keystone Sanitary landfill and the Waste Management Alliance landfill, the system has an inlet capacity to process up to 22,500 Mcf/day of landfill gas. The gas is processed and purified into pipeline-quality RNG using advanced technology that reduces the need for onsite flaring, minimizing emissions.
Our team integrated the design with existing landfill equipment and systems by creating three separate smaller sites for the processing equipment. This layout required a 1,500-foot underground piping corridor between two of the sites. The project includes inlet blowers, H2S removal, dehydration, feed compression, CO2 removal membranes, thermal oxidizer, nitrogen rejection unit, sales gas compression and balance of plant systems.
As Archaea Energy’s design engineer, we performed preliminary design activities to support permitting, including conceptual plant layouts and process flow diagrams, and provided detailed design for all foundations and underground piping.
