Dedicated to making the county safer for everyone, the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (Broward MPO) received a Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant (SS4A) from the U.S. Department of Transportation and is developing a county-wide Safety Action Plan. With a diverse population of nearly two million and over 31 municipalities, the Broward region has adopted a safe system approach to reduce fatalities and serious injuries county-wide.
WSP is leading the Regional Safety Action Plan creation and addressing high injury network challenges facing Broward County, including projects to reduce the top three crash types: lane departures, pedestrians/bicyclists and intersections. This comprehensive 18-month long planning study includes an extensive public outreach program with a focus on equitable outcomes, development of policies to support safe systems implementation, and development of feasible engineering corridor concepts for implementation.
Safety plan outcomes will include establishing policy/design guidelines for streamlining implementation of long and short-term improvement projects across the county to improve safety and creating an interactive SS4A website to support Broward on their journey towards achieving zero traffic fatalities and serious injury crashes.
