Using high-resolution aerial imagery, we helped a Texas utility actively monitor and visualize the restoration of a critical dam and spillway serving two major power plants.

When major rain events threatened to further deteriorate a dam and spillway serving two Texas power plants, our team stepped in to support urgent restoration efforts. The deterioration of the 2.4-mile earthen dam, which holds 16,400 acre-feet of water, posed significant safety and operational risks if ignored, especially with a new power plant under construction nearby.

Visualizing restoration progress

We deployed our drone team to capture high-resolution aerial imagery and video throughout the project lifecycle. These visuals were used to create a time-lapse construction video that visually tracked progress and performance. This tool enabled project teams and leadership to assess restoration activities and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Using photogrammetry, we created a 3D digital twin of the site, allowing for remote inspection and precise measurement. We also produced a 3D printed model to provide a tactile representation of the dam and spillway for use in presentations and briefings.

Meeting regulatory and operational needs

Our aerial imagery supported visual inspections conducted by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, helping confirm the final performance of the restored infrastructure. The drone footage served as a valuable tool for construction monitoring and reporting, giving project managers a clear view of progress and challenges.
