The upgrades generally consist of fire-life safety systems, lighting, ventilation, leak mitigation, roadway rehabilitation, and other miscellaneous repairs.
The tunnels have been in service for more than 20 years and the scope of work includes rehabilitating the tunnel structure, mitigation of leaks and bringing fire-life safety provisions into closer compliance with current standards. Work commenced in June of 2021 with an estimated construction completion date set for 2025.
