In the early 2000s, our client paused their ambitious seven-floor, 137,000 square-foot fiber optic cable draw tower project due to a slowdown in the market. Sixteen years later, as the market rebounded, they were eager to finish the buildout of the empty structure in order to increase their manufacturing capabilities — and lightning fast.
Origin story
The original building plans were a good starting point but building and utility codes and our client’s needs had changed. Using the latest software, our team reworked the building’s existing steel frame to incorporate additional draw towers, add new draw machines to the current towers and transform a passenger elevator shaft and pit into a freight elevator, all while bringing the building design up to current code.
Fast-tracking a complex facility like this one is no easy feat, but we were in a great position to help since we were involved in the initial greenfield construction of the tower. With our comprehensive architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering teams, we revitalized this once-empty shell into a fully operational fiber draw facility in record time.
