WSP was selected to revitalize nine blocks along India Street, which is an historic part of downtown San Diego's Little Italy.

To restore the historical district of the Little Italy quarter to its original character, WSP was selected by the City of San Diego Centre City Development Corporation to revitalize nine city blocks along India Street in the Italian quarter of downtown San Diego.

Extensive demolition, existing surface improvement replacements, parking area and traffic goal improvements, and coordination with numerous private encroachments were required to improve the streetscape of the Little Italy district. New pedestrian gathering areas were created by widening portions of the public sidewalk areas creating landscaped features and gatherings of street furniture throughout the length of the project. Historic ornamental lighting, palm trees, landscape materials consistent with the historic character of Little Italy and contemporary design goals were also incorporated into the design of this $3 million revitalization project.

WSP also provided extensive public outreach throughout the planning and design process to ensure the needs of the community and City of San Diego agencies reviewing the project were heard and met for this highly public restoration.
