At 250,000 square feet, Newseum blends five centuries worth of news history, while featuring 14 exhibit galleries, 15 theaters, two state-of-the-art broadcast studios and dozens of interactive activities that take visitors behind the scenes to experience how and why news is made. Newseum also contains a food court, a two-level Newseum Store, a 24,000-square-foot conference center, a three-level restaurant and more than 140,000 square feet of residential apartments.
The exterior’s unique architectural elements include a 74-foot-high marble engraving of the First Amendment. In addition to the 132 Newseum residential units, a fitness center and a below-grade parking facility are available for resident use. The building's total area - including office space, conference center, broadcast studios, retail areas, dining facilities and residences is 643,000 square feet.
Some of Newseum’s more popular attributes include: The News Corp. News History Gallery, where 500 years of newspaper front pages create a timeline of history as news; The Berlin Wall Gallery, where visitors can stand beneath eight 12-foot-tall concrete sections of the original wall and a three-story guard tower; "I-Witness!", a 4-D time-travel adventure movie about three inspiring journalists and their impact on history; and a 90-foot-high atrium and a 40-by-22-foot high-definition media screen, visible both inside and outside the museum.
