Quest Diagnostics consolidated multiple lab facilities to develop its new, state-of-the-art 250,000-square-foot regional testing lab that includes fully automated, semi-automated, and manual operations. The project encompasses 175,000 square feet (SF) of laboratory space dedicated to sample receipt, warehousing and visitor entry on the ground floor. The second floor includes 50,000 SF of office workplace and 10,000 SF of amenity spaces that includes a cafeteria area, town hall, and a visitor viewing platform above the ground floor lab automation lines.
WSP provided lighting design services as well as mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) services for this project. Our lighting design team designed the architectural lighting and lighting controls. Lines of light carried throughout the building reinforce the order and care integral to the work Quest staff conduct in both the lab and office areas. Large curvilinear luminaire form factors at the viewing platform oculus, ground floor corridor lab entries and office workplace create moments to aid with wayfinding throughout the space. Exterior lighting designed along the main drive Isabella Road, service drives and the landscaped front yard help facilitate the round-the-clock facility during evening operations.
The MEP services our WSP team provided includes HVAC systems, fire protection, emergency electrical systems, MEP Commissioning specifications and life cycle cost analysis for all major HVAC systems. The project achieved LEED Silver certification.
