The project included approximately 320,000 square feet over four levels. Construction was completed in phases to allow the terminal to remain active and minimize passenger and employee disruption during construction. A new 20,000-square-foot addition was added to the airside to increase passenger circulation and reduce congestion at security screening checkpoints. The newly renovated Terminal 3 East also includes 12,000 square feet of tenant retail concessions to provide more amenities for passengers and increase airport retail revenue.
Renovations included a renewable energy system using photovoltaic technology, as well as the replacement of existing medium pressure dual-duct heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems with new efficient fan wall technology rooftop air handling units to serve the displacement ventilation variable air volume (VAV) system on the departures level and the overhead VAV system on the other levels.
Our team also designed replacement of the existing 12-kV electrical feeders, switchgear, substations and distribution with new modern technology with supervisory control and date acquisition interface and controls. Other renovations included the replacement of the existing life safety emergency generator and fuel oil systems, an upgrade to the building automation system, and an upgrade to the fire alarm system.
