Our teams were involved in many signature commuter and regional rail projects such as the Eagle P3 Commuter Rail Project in Denver, which was the first public transportation project to use the P3 delivery method in the US. We were also involved in the KCRC West Rail in Hong Kong, the Regional Rail Link in Melbourne, Thameslink in London and the Nynäs Line in Stockholm.
WSP was hired to plan for and facilitate the integration of the two entities into a single unified transit agency (Valley Metro in the US), develop a strategic plan and performance metrics and, subsequently, support implementation. Our team worked with Valley Metro leadership to determine the optimal organisational structure and staffing for the unified agency to support its mission of expanding integrated regional transit services, while simultaneously capturing the resource savings from elimination of redundant or unnecessary functions and the improved efficiency of a single agency. Our team provided the analysis required to develop a “going forward” plan for the unified agency that addressed the organisational structure, talent requirements, and business model(s) needed to deliver cost-effective, coordinated customer services and provide the organisational platform to carry out the agency’s mission and advance its new leadership team’s vision.
Another important challenge for commuter and suburban rail operations is implementing positive train control (PTC) or European Train Control Systems (ETCS). WSP is a recognised leader in this emerging technology, for which we offer comprehensive consulting services for the specification, design, installation, testing and maintenance.
