How does WSP assist industrial clients in optimizing asset performance and lifecycle management?

WSP works with mining and industrial clients at strategic, tactical and operational levels.  We have had great success in placing process and maintenance coaches at the physical asset.  This has realized significant savings in efficiency and production thanks to our development of Strategic Asset Management Plans (SAMPs) and Asset Class Management Plans for specific sites and facilities.  Success in supporting multinational organizations lies in strengthening, deploying and operationalizing central asset management systems and frameworks.

How does WSP help public sector organizations and regulators ensure compliance and effective governance in asset management?

WSP works closely with government agencies to develop and structure policy that builds capability and trust in the management of assets to deliver public services.  Our experience and certifications enable WSP to provide independent assurance advice to asset owners, policy setters and those that hold the finances.  We pride ourselves in helping organizations improve their asset management maturity, with a focus on management system, governance and asset lifecycle decision making capability.

A core to supporting public sector organizations is our asset data and information capability.  Having a structured and relevant asset register and asset lifecycle information is the cornerstone to enabling good asset management and our team is leading in asset hierarchy, data standards, information system requirements development and digital twin / AI enablement of data and information.  Asset Intelligence is a focused stream of capability and support for clients in our Digital Advisory offering.

What strategies does WSP employ to enhance the value and resilience of infrastructure and built-environment assets?

The resilience of our built environment and aging infrastructure is under constant pressure from changing demands of users, stakeholders and the environment. WSP works with asset owners all over the world to enhance value and resilience by assessing risk both now and in the future to understand the context and vision for systems of assets. The risks we face today are not the risks of tomorrow, but we have to be ready for both so that services are delivered sustainably. This often means careful business continuity planning and deep understanding of the assets we own. By combining asset intelligence with risk management, we can develop asset management strategies plans that balance the risk. For example, we can model the risk and resilience of roads networks during natural disasters to plan for rescue and recovery efforts, or design facilities that have passive and active adaptation measures and redundancies that safeguard production.

How does WSP support transport sector clients in managing complex, multi-modal asset networks?

Multi-modal agencies must juggle the needs of various transportation modes, including rail, transit, roads, airports, ports, and bus systems. They face the same challenges as single-mode agencies, but with the added complexity of balancing competing demands between different modes. These networks have higher political accountability and must justify investments across asset classes. Therefore, it's crucial to work both from the top-down and bottom-up. We need to build a strong business case to secure executive leadership buy-in, drive policy, safeguard resources, and win hearts and minds. This should be complemented by a robust, data-driven approach that involves gathering accurate asset data on condition and inventory, and implementing effective data platforms and business processes to generate real asset intelligence for strategic planning. With this in place, we can prioritize and optimize, making defensible decisions about where limited funding is best spent for the most beneficial outcomes. Achieving this requires a combination of top-notch transport engineering, organizational design expertise, change management, and practical experience.
