This prestigious 14th annual breakfast ceremony celebrated Adams and nine other trailblazers who have made outstanding contributions to the transportation industry, shattering glass ceilings and creating paths forward for future generations. Awards were presented at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.
“This recognition is so well-deserved for a professional that has made great impact in our industry, in our communities, and for so many individuals,” said Jannet Walker-Ford, Advisory and Planning business line executive at WSP in the U.S., and 2019 COMTO Women Who Move the Nation winner. “Tanya’s impact goes beyond her tireless commitment to advancing the transportation and infrastructure industry; her current second term as COMTO’s national board chair; her service on multiple committees; and decades of industry experience and advocacy. Those who collaborate with Tanya are better professionals because of that connection, and I’m so proud of her contributions to our teams and clients.”
COMTO, a national advocacy organization, to date has inducted 152 transportation leaders into its prestigious group of Women Who Move the Nation.
“It’s no secret that COMTO has played an important role in my development as a transportation professional,” Adams said. “I am humbled my peers selected me for this esteemed honor from an organization that does so much good for so many people.”
At WSP, one of the world’s leading professional services firms, Adams works to create an environment that promotes a culture of trust, advances talent and supports leadership in our communities.
COMTO previously honored Adams as Corporate Executive of the Year and a President’s Excellence award winner. In 2018 she was the first African American recipient of the WTS-Chicago’s Woman of the Year award.
In 2015, Adams was the first African American woman to be elected to the board of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois and currently serves as its treasurer. She is a member of the equal employment opportunity committee for the Illinois Road and Transportation Builders Association; and the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Conference, serving on its Women and Girls in Transportation Initiative committee.
