Healing for active kids

Designed to support both patient care and education, the facility offers day surgery, physical therapy and walk in care for injured patients. As a teaching hospital, it also supports ongoing research and includes a conference center with a 155 seat lecture hall for training and collaboration.

Child focused design elements help create a welcoming environment throughout the building, including the extensive use of color. A standout feature is the color changing façade of the Movement Science Lab, where WSP collaborated with HKS to bring a creative architectural concept to life.

The new facility provides physicians with expanded resources and room to grow the Center for Excellence in Sports Medicine, enabling seamless, end to end care for pediatric athletes at every stage of recovery.

Collaborative alternative delivery

The project team used a Lean integrated project delivery approach to drive collaboration, reduce risk and improve outcomes. Co located “Big Room” working sessions, Gemba walks and structured decision making tools enabled close coordination among designers, builders and hospital staff. This approach ensured complex specialty spaces — such as the prosthetics and orthotics workshop and the Movement Science Lab— were precisely coordinated with building systems, resulting in a highly efficient, well performing facility and a repeatable model for future healthcare projects.
