WSP in Action
One of the largest privately managed and funded build-operate- transfer (BOT) projects in the world, the Taiwan High-Speed Rail (THSR) line is a fully electrified, double-track system covering 345km. The line connects 14 major cities and 77 townships and regions. The system reaches over 90% of the island's population of 23 million. Ridership in 2015 exceeded 50 million passengers, with more than 160,000 passengers each day. WSP has played a key role in the development of this megaproject. Our involvement spans all phases to include feasibility study, program management for implementation concept and strategies, general engineering consultant, and start-up and operation support. We worked as part of an integrated team with the THSRC and during the peak had over 100 professionals to assist with the program execution.
In Australia, the Roy Hill Iron Ore Project involved the delivery of a new mine and its process plant, a 344 km heavy haul railway from mine to port, and a new two-berth port facility at Port Hedland. The project also encompassed all non-process infrastructure, including airstrip, power, water, access roads, accommodation villages (temporary and permanent) and facilities to support ongoing operations. WSP is engaged as the project management contractor, providing the full scope of assurance services to successfully deliver the project, working closely with the Roy Hill management team. A risk-based approach, high-performance team culture and quarterly forward-planning cycle underpinned our methodology.
