WSP in Canada Takes on Integral Role in GO Rail Expansion - Union Station Enhancement Project

WSP in Canada is taking part in the ONTrack Alliance, the consortium that will deliver the GO Rail Expansion – Union Station Enhancement Project in Toronto. WSP is the lead designer on the project, along with constructors Kiewit & Alberici (joint venture) and Mass. Electric Construction Canada Co. (signalling).

The project represents the largest Alliance contract in Canadian history, the collaborative contracting model that has been used to deliver large-scale public infrastructure projects in the UK and Australia for over 20 years. The model involves both the public sector and private sector partners working together, sharing risks and responsibilities equally, to create a positive culture where decisions are made on a best-for-project and value-for-money basis.

The Union Station Enhancement Project will create the additional infrastructure needed to deliver two-way, all-day service every 15 minutes throughout key segments of the GO rail corridor. The work includes the addition of new platforms and tracks, a new concourse area below the new platforms, and additional elements including stormwater management systems and other building systems.

Construction is expected to begin shortly now that the Project Alliance Agreement is in place.
