WSP's Nancy Wilk Captures CIM Distinguished Lecturer Award

Honouring individuals for their contributions to the minerals sector.

WSP’s Nancy Wilk, Environmental Health and Safety Fellow in Mine Water and Environment East, has been recognized with a Distinguished Lecturer Award from the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM or the Institute). The award was presented at a special awards ceremony and gala at CIM’s annual Convention and Expo, which took place April 30 – May 3 in Montreal, Que.

CIM’s Distinguished Lecturer Awards are awarded annually to individuals “…on the basis of their accomplishments in scientific, technical, management or educational activities related to the minerals industry, and speak at CIM Branch and Student Chapter meetings across the country.” Up to eight individuals are honoured each year.

Nancy is a valuable member of our global mining business, advocating for and supporting the health, safety and well-being of our clients. She is a dedicated advocate for worker health and richly deserving of this recognition from CIM.

Wilk is being honoured for her work in the promotion of Total Worker Health® (TWH), helping to raise awareness of the holistic, integrated strategy and the need for establishment of similar future-ready approaches within different sectors and geographies. She has spoken on the subject to audiences in Canada, Australia, and Indonesia, and is the incoming 2023 Chair of the American Industrial Hygiene Association’s (AIHA) Total Worker Health® Advisory Group. In 2022, joined WSP colleagues Maeve Crowne and Douglas McNeil to discuss potential collaborations for mitigating risks in TWH and ESG (Potential Collaborations for Mitigating Risks in TWH and ESG (aiha.org)).

Wilk has worked in occupational hygiene for 36 years. She was Golder’s Global Vice President of HSSE and a former Risk Management Director at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ont. Wilk was previously recognized by the AIHA in 2022 as the recipient of the Aileen Yankowski Outstanding Leader of the Year Award.
