One of the leaders of WSP’s Future Ready® global innovation program recently explained the program’s vision and how it informs the firm’s projects to achieve a more sustainable and resilient future.
Alastair MacGregor, WSP senior vice president and U.S. Property and Buildings leader, joined Purpose 360 host Carol Cone, CEO of Carol Cone ON PURPOSE, in a discussion of the WSP program and his book, “Future Ready: Your Organization’s Guide to Rethinking Climate, Resilience and Sustainability.”

In this far-ranging and fun conversation, MacGregor serves up a satisfying menu of “burgers, fries and a side of sustainability” to the audience, sharing his expertise on how personalized, brand-specific sustainability initiatives can “get past the smoke and mirrors” to engage broader audiences, as well as how to implement climate resilience strategies and how to help stakeholders understand the importance of climate, resilience and sustainability.
He said WSP’s intention is not to be the biggest firm or to have the largest reach, but to connect the firm’s passionate people, united by a common purpose, to make long-lasting impacts in the community and foster a culture of innovation and technical excellence. “The new normal is the need to embrace uncertainty.”
The book serves as a guide for business, government and other infrastructure organization leaders to set and implement sustainability and resilience strategies in complex project and operating environments, in addition to other environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals. MacGregor is also the creator of the companion “Are You Future Ready?” scenario planning game, which helps organizations define their own journey to achieve their sustainable development goals while expanding awareness about the impact of climate change.
