WSP’s Water and Wastewater team in Canada has been recognized by the Future Water Association at its annual awards celebration in London, England. The awards were presented in association with the Canadian High Commission in the United Kingdom.

The team received the Above and Beyond Special Commendation award for its work in delivering solutions to the water crisis in Iqaluit, Nunavut, in 2021-2022. They worked with private and public sector partners to locate, identify, and resolve the issues that forced 9,000 consumers to be under a ‘Do Not Consume’ water advisory for several months. The award recognizes the hard work and dedication of Director of Water and Wastewater Prairies Justin Rak-Banville, Water Team Lead Dr. Charles Goss, and Engineer-in-Training Ian Moran.

The work conducted by WSP in resolving the Iqaluit water emergency has also been recognized by other organizations previously. In December 2022, the project received an Award of Merit from Engineering News Record’s (ENR) Global Best Projects competition.

Justin Rak-Banville and Ian Moran were also honored with the People Award for meritorious work in indigenous communities, research & development initiatives, and fostering collaboration across Canada.

The Future Water Association, a UK-based organization, presents its annual Future Water Awards as part of its annual celebrations of World Water Day.
