WSP to Design Phase 1 of the Calgary Green Line LRT

Multi-billion-dollar project will transform the way people move.

WSP, part of the Bow Transit Connectors consortium, has been selected to design Phase 1 of Calgary’s Green Line light rail transit (LRT) system.

Bow Transit Connectors, consisting of Barnard Constructors of Canada LP, Flatiron Constructors Canada, and WSP in Canada, was one of two project teams pre-qualified to submit a proposal for the project. In April, the team was named First Negotiations Proponent to work with the City to reach a Development Phase Agreement.

 

In collaboration with our project partners, and the City of Calgary, we’re poised to deliver a project that will transform the transit landscape in the community. The Green Line LRT is a vital transit link that will not only allow for the efficient movement of people in and out of the downtown core, but also spur new economic development that will benefit all Calgarians. The Green Line LRT will create new opportunities for people to connect with places to work, live and play throughout the city.

Phase 1 of the Green Line LRT will feature the development of the first 18 kilometres of the overall 46 kms vision. Featuring both above-ground and below-ground sections, Phase 1 will build from Shepard in the southeast, where the new Maintenance and Storage Facility will be located, to Eau Claire on the north side of downtown Calgary. It will include 13 stations and connect to two existing LRT lines and four MAX BRT routes. At $4.9 billion, it represents the largest infrastructure investment in Calgary’s history.

 

Using industry experts that have worked on major transit projects across Canada and around the world, our team will be able to create the resilient, innovative solution needed for the Green Line LRT. We’re excited to work with our partners to deliver a project that will benefit generations of Calgarians.
