Jazz Pabla Captures National Municipal Information Technology Award

WSP in Canada’s Chief Innovation Officer, Jazz Pabla, has been given the prestigious Peter Bennett Award by the Municipal Information Services Association of Canada (MISA Canada).

The national award is given annually “… for individual service making an outstanding contribution to the Canadian municipal IT community and to the MISA Canada mission and objectives, while exemplifying Peter Bennett’s spirit of demonstrated leadership and working “beyond the call” with humor and humanity.”

Pabla is being recognized for his work while serving as the Chief Information Officer at the City of Kelowna. During his time with the municipality, Pabla was instrumental in introducing automation for municipal processes. His use of artificial intelligence to review development applications was the first project of its kind in Canada, an innovative solution for an important, but time-consuming, municipal process. The chatbot he introduced for this process is available for utilization by all other Canadian municipalities.

In addition to his work with the City, the award also recognizes his contributions to the betterment of MISA, having served MISA BC on the Public Sector CIO Council’s National Chief Information Security Officer Committee on Information Protection.

This is the second time this year Pabla has been recognized for his innovative contributions to the municipal sector. He was also the recipient of the 2024 BC Achievement Foundation Community Award, which recognize “… extraordinary British Columbians who build better, stronger and more resilient communities.”
