WSP Earns Award of Excellence from the International Concrete Repair Institute

Honour recognizes work done on the historic Granite Club in Toronto.

WSP in Canada (WSP) has been honoured with an Award of Excellence from the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI or The Institute) for its work on the Granite Club Garage Rehabilitation Project.

The ICRI, originally named the International Association of Concrete Repair Specialists, was formed in 1998 to address the need for standards and guidelines for concrete repair. The Institute has 38 chapters worldwide, including three in Canada (Vancouver, Toronto, Quebec). The annual awards, given out at the Fall Convention, are a celebration of people, projects and industry safety. Project awards are “… judged on uniqueness, use of state-of-the-art methods, use of materials, functionality, value engineering, and aesthetics.”

The Granite Club, a multi-purpose recreation and athletic facility constructed in 1875 in Toronto, includes a three-level underground parking garage that was added to the historic site in 1972. WSP was contracted to evaluate the condition of the structure, and the effectiveness of the Cathodic Protection (CP) system put in place to mitigate corrosion.

The project is believed to be the only full-scale CP system in a parking facility in North America where a Cathodic Protection system employing the conductive coating and connective anodes have been replaced as part of a cathodic protection renewal project.

 

Our team is grateful to be recognized by the ICRI for our work on The Granite Club. In collaboration with our contractor, Duron Construction, we were able to deliver an innovative solution that will greatly improve the quality of the structure while also reducing its environmental footprint.
