WSP providing technical, engineering services for PPAW1 Wind Energy Centre

Eastern Quebec-based clean energy project will add 350 MW to the grid.

WSP in Canada (WSP) is providing technical, environmental, and engineering services for the development of the Pohénégamook-Picard-Saint-Antonin-Wolastokuk 1 (PPAW 1) Wind Energy Centre in eastern Quebec.

PPAW 1 is being developed by Invenergy in partnership with the Alliance de l’énergie de l’Est, a consortium of more than 200 municipalities and territories (including one First Nation) in the Bas-Saint Laurent region of Eastern Quebec. The project was selected in 2023 by Hydro-Québec as part of its call for tenders.

Capitalizing on the opportunity to work together to create additional clean energy resources is vital in our transition to a low emissions economy. I’m proud that our team is playing an important role in the development and execution of this nation-building green energy infrastructure project.

WSP has provided, and is providing, several professional services for the project’s development. The company acted as the Independent Engineer in the project financing phase, focused on technical and environmental due diligence. The company will perform construction monitoring during the build out.

Investing in the development of Quebec’s clean energy future helps ensure we have the necessary resources to power the province’s economy in the future. Working in collaboration, our team of energy and environment experts in Quebec, and across the country, are providing the technical knowledge necessary to see renewable energy projects through their entire life cycle, helping to sustain clean energy resources in the long term.

Located on the ancestral territory of the Wolastokuk and the Regional County Municipalities of Rivière-du-Loup, Témiscouata and Kamouraska, the 350-megawatt wind farm will produce enough energy to power 50,000 homes.
