The Crosstown is one of the largest and most ambitious infrastructure projects in North America. It will support future growth across Canada’s biggest and fastest-growing city. Running through the heart of Toronto, the 19 km rapid transit line features 15 underground stations, 10 at-grade stops and a 10 km section tunneled underground. The project seeks to make transit travel 60 per cent faster in the Eglinton Avenue corridor in addition to improving reliability and convenience. The Eglinton Crosstown LRT will conveniently link to 54 local bus routes, three TTC interchange subway stations, and various GO Transit lines.
WSP is a member of 4Transit Joint Venture, which was awarded a 10-year Transit Expansion Department Program Management Services contract by Metrolinx. Providing Project Management and Technical Advisor services for this rapid transit line, WSP was involved from project initiation through to project completion. In the design phase, our conceptual design services included elevated guideway, underground stations including integrated bus terminals, PPUDO and pedestrian connections, at-grade median LRT including stops, drainage and stormwater, bridges, municipal roads and traffic assessment during construction and future conditions. Our expertise has been instrumental in leading the application of new and amended road cuts, occupation permits and approval to support construction as well as overseeing the traffic management plans developed for the station construction.
WSP prepared an Environmental Project Report Addendum that addressed revisions to the project between Jane Street and Keelesdale Park, including the addition of a maintenance and storage facility for a new fleet of light rail vehicles. The scope included conceptual design of the elements identified above, as well as public and stakeholder consultation, noise / vibration, heritage, archaeological, and natural environment.
