In the United States, the Coolidge Generating Station is a 575-megawatt simple-cycle peaking power plant in Arizona that uses 12 aero-derivative combustion turbine generators with evaporative cooling power augmentation. The plant was designed for daily start/stop peaking operations, and has a 10-minute startup capability that allows it to deliver power rapidly to the grid to meet an increased demand for electricity. WSP was engaged, in joint venture, to design and construct the plant under an engineer-procure-construct (EPC) contract. We provided all engineering services, including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and control systems engineering. In addition, we provided engineering support during construction, and developed start-up and operating procedures for the plant. The Coolidge power station was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
