Transportation drives nearly a quarter of all carbon emissions globally, making the decarbonization of transportation an important target for reversing climate change. Electric vehicle conversion is a leading choice, and electric transit buses are proving to be an accessible option.

Public transit agencies have been quietly growing the nation’s fleet of electric buses, a trend that could change U.S. cities as we have known them for the past century. Los Angeles has been an aggressive proponent, aiming to convert its entire bus fleet to electric by 2028.

Most U.S. buses still run on diesel fuel, but since the early 2000s, forward-looking public transit officials started working with existing and startup bus manufacturers to build cleaner, quieter electric buses.
