When it comes to sustainability and efficiency on major aviation infrastructure projects, the little changes made during design can often have the biggest impact.
“How do you change the course of something so that it uses less of what you are taking away from the environment,” asks Indhira Figuereo Blaney, senior vice president and U.S. aviation market leader at WSP “How do I use less fuel, or material, so I don’t impact (the environment) so much? Maybe we can use something different … or approach construction a little bit different.”
Figuereo Blaney explored the answers to these questions and more during her recent appearance on the Engineering Management Institute’s Women in Engineering podcast for a lively discussion, “How to Achieve Aviation Sustainability with Design, Technology and Collaboration.”
She talked candidly about her civil engineering journey and the path she followed into the aviation field that led her to WSP. She recounted the challenges of navigating the engineering world as a woman in a male-dominated industry, and the benefits of working for an employer that provides support to overcome those challenges.
Listen to Figuereo Blaney discuss her career along with trends and innovations she is witnessing today, on EMI’s podcast:
