The Governor of NY State created an Airport Advisory Panel to make recommendations to the State of New York and the Authority regarding the transformation JFK Airports and to prepare a JFK Vision Plan. As part of this undertaking the Port Authority authorized Phase II planning efforts and supporting construction work including planning for the overall Airport redevelopment which included reconstruction of the central terminal area roadways and a new ground transportation center to support the various capacity improvements projects to be undertaken as part of the JFK Vision plan.
As part of the JFK Redevelopment Program, WSP is providing architectural and engineering services to complete design for the JFK Central Terminal Area (CTA) Roadways and Utilities. The project team is delivering a wide range of services on an aggressive schedule that includes the design of roadways, bridge structures, foundations, utilities, thermal distribution, communications, MEP and fire protection, drainage, architectural standards, electrical (high and medium voltage), traffic, environmental permitting, sustainability, climate resiliency, construction sequencing, estimating, scheduling, and landscape architecture.
Innovative Ideas
As part of the design process, WSP is collaborating with various Client departments as well as several terminal design teams, developers, and stakeholders. To support the procurement stages of this project, WSP is also preparing Requirements and Provisions for Work (RPW) that detailed both general provisions and technical requirements of the design for the various components of the project.
WSP coordinated the work for all program elements to achieve a cohesive design and suggested improvements to the Client in methodology and technology that provided cost savings and ease of implementation. WSP minimized the amount of excavation necessary for the roadway work and optimized the utility network to result in reduced cost.
