Over the last year, we have made significant effort to better our diversity and inclusion as a whole by taking a step back and looking at how we can improve under-represented groups to ultimately improve the culture and experience of our business and our people.

Our intent is to:

Since our first Gender Balance Report was released in 2018, we have taken several actions in the Middle East to support progress in gender balance. On our journey, we came across opportunities to focus on diversity and inclusion more widely. Our 2019 report highlights how far we have come as a business, where we are and where we are going.
Achievements and Actions
Establishment of a Middle East Gender Balance Steering Group that identifies and addresses barriers to women and underrepresented groups in the industry and region
Inclusion of language in tender proposals concerning the requirements for workplaces that consider the health and safety of diverse employees to engage our clients and partners
Participation in cross-sector Diversity & Inclusion roundtable of leading organisations in the region
Launch of a Coaching Academy to support females in our workplace, sector and communities
Revamp of our #EngineeredOURway series to feature stories from inspiring people that represent the diversity of our workplace
We recognise that we have more to do and we must ensure that we are relentless in the commitment to be a workplace that is more inclusive and balanced.
Looking ahead to 2020, we will commit to assigning experienced mentors to our talented females at all levels and to women in our communities; we will include women in a diverse shortlist when pursuing recruitment of experienced hires to work on our iconic projects; we will implement policies and behaviours that are best-class in areas of work-life balance, equal rights and equal pay; and we will actively participate in events, networks and cross-sector groups that progress the diversity & inclusion agenda in the countries in which we operate.

From a work perspective, I’m passionate about improving what we do and motivating our people & teams. I’m likewise passionate about teamwork and making complex things simple. On a personal level, I’m most passionate about my work-life balance, especially now that I have a family and three young daughters.
I’ve learned that each person has something unique and valuable to share and contribute to a healthy workplace – a smile, a good-morning, a snack, an idea, a life story, a compliment, advice, expertise, or time. I’ve also learned that everyone is an expert in something, and deserve appreciation regardless of where they sit in the business, or what their elevator pitch is.
