The newest improvement project at Toronto’s Union Station will deliver an expanded transit hub and enhanced rail and platform-level infrastructure supportive of the GO Expansion plan, which aims to increase regional rail service across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

The first subway extension in Toronto in over 15 years, the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension (TYSSE) was a decade long project. The $3.2 billion Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension (TYSSE) is expected to carry some 24 million passengers a year by 2020.

Ottawa’s first Light Rail Transit system is an ongoing Design-Build-Finance-Maintain project delivered by WSP as a joint venture with the Rideau Transit Group.

The Evergreen Line, which links Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam to Vancouver is expected to carry 70,000 passengers a day by 2021. The Thameslink programme upgraded a live north-south rail route through London, including infrastructure dating back to the 1860s. For Network Rail, we developed the safety programme for the European Train Control System (ETCS) in the central Core, enabling metro-style frequency while retaining a conventional signalling fallback. 

Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), the largest train operator in the Netherlands, is retrofitting its fleet of 176 double deck VIRM passenger EMUs as part of the national programme to extend the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) across the Dutch rail network.

WSP was appointed to support NS by preparing the Specification of System and Process Requirements (SSPR) and the Verification and Validation substantiation report, providing the technical and process requirements needed for inclusion in the formal EU tender documents.

With the funding under Global Environment Facility (GEF), WSP will utilize Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) planning expertise to improve and enhance the liveability and accessibility of Nanchang, the capital city of Jiangxi province in mid China.

As one of the most substantial transportation projects ever built in the UK, the new line has attracted its share of controversy, with much of the concern related to the potential scale of impacts.
