A small international airport built on the Toronto Islands, this airport is critical to business travel and economic development by serving as a hub to over 18 cities in Canada and the United States. Billy Bishop, Toronto City Airport, was named by Airports Council International (ACI) as best in North America in 2016 for the 2-5 million passenger category. The 9th busiest airport in Canada, it required a new terminal and parking apron.
As part of this important project, WSP provided electrical, IT and security and civil infrastructure engineering services for the new, 10-gate, 14,000 square metre air terminal building, apron re-grading and landside design and rehabilitation of approximately 26,000 square metre of the existing aircraft parking apron was completed to accommodate local and international airport fire codes and regulations, plus landside civil and site servicing works.
