One of the most popular provinces in Costa Rica, Guanacaste is home to pristine shorelines, beautiful mountain ranges and a number of volcanoes. As a gateway to this tropical paradise, the capital city’s airport, needed to better manage increased demand from tourism. The government had incorporated temporary solutions over the years but identified that a private company would need to be contracted to expand and operate the airport in the future.

Prime Consultant for P3 airport development

WSP was retained as the Prime Consultant by the Government of Costa Rica’s Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MOPT), to provide overall project management, design, and contract administration for this $2.5 M project.

Serving as the prime consultant and equity investor, WSP was responsible for providing overall project management, design and contract administration services. The new terminal, named the “Coolest new airport terminal” in 2012 by Travel and Leisure Magazine replaced the existing aging and capacity-constrained terminal building with a 20,000 square metres, seven-gate multi-level passenger terminal building and the associated landside, airside and site services.
