The standard provides a clear and consistent approach specifically to delivering low carbon infrastructure which supports wider sustainability schemes such as CEEQUAL (the infrastructure sustainability assessment), an outcome-orientated assessment, where carbon management is just one aspect of delivering sustainable infrastructure.
PAS2080 aims to reduce carbon and cost through a culture of challenge and innovation creating more intelligent design, construction, and use. It also ensures that carbon is consistently and transparently quantified at key points in infrastructure delivery and promotes the active sharing of data throughout the value chain.
More organisations are adopting PAS2080 and, at the end of last year the Department for Transport announced it to be best practice for business cases in Local Authorities now require a Carbon Management Strategy (which follows the PAS2080 framework) for Major Road Network, Large Local Majors, and Retained Local Growth Fund schemes.
PAS2080 has specific benefits when implemented on projects, but additionally provides the opportunity for organisations to implement through leadership and systems at a corporate level. You can find out more here.
