Challenge
Given jetBlue’s tremendous growth in recent years, and with New York as its corporate home, the airline chose to construct a modern, purpose built facility to meet their aggressive flight schedule.
Solution
WSP was selected by jetBlue Airways Corporation to provide structural engineering services for the construction of the 26-gate jetBlue Terminal at JFK. The 465,000 square foot terminal includes an elevated 750-foot jointless roadway that functions as the roof of the baggage claim hall. Opened in 2008, the terminal is capable of accommodating 46,000 passengers per day, on 500 inbound and outbound flights, and approximately 20 million passengers per year.
In 2012, jetBlue again selected WSP to provide structural engineering services to expand the terminal to 30 gates and provide full customs facilities. The expanded facility, T5i, opened in November of 2014.
