WSP USA provided construction engineering services on behalf of the Chicago Department of Transportation, working with the agency to extend the life of the nearly 100-year-old structure and preserve its original character.
The construction plan for the structure involved rehabilitation of the bridge trusses with selective replacement and/or repairs; replacing floor beams, gusset connection plates, roadway stringers, and grating; replacing sidewalk support brackets, stringers, panels, railings, and all access walkways; cleaning and painting of structural steel and bridge machinery; repair and/or reconstruction of river walls, abutments, back walls, and river dolphins; rehabilitation and/or replacing electrical and mechanical systems; and rehabilitation of all architectural elements of the bridge houses.
