Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) becoming a mandatory requirement will impact the majority of medium and large developments in the UK with a requirement to measurably increase the biodiversity of a site by 10%.
BNG is a process to development which leaves biodiversity in a measurably better state than before. Using habitats as a proxy for biodiversity and a metric to calculate biodiversity losses and gains, means there will be a more consistent approach to accounting for biodiversity within development.
WSP has a wealth of experience with using the metric and advising developers how the new requirements will impact their projects. This includes the best ways to follow the mitigation hierarchy to avoid and reduce biodiversity losses and create and restore habitats in a meaningful way on site.
However, many developments will require offsite solutions to enable them to achieve the 10% BNG requirement and as such WSP are working with landowners, local planning authorities, and developers to identify and assess off site solutions in the form of habitat banks.
This webinar recording will support all businesses who want to understand more about what BNG is and how it should be considered for development projects.
