Solutions shaped by nature.

We use a solution focused approach to support you in delivery of projects whilst promoting the enhancement of biodiversity and contributing to a healthy natural world for generations to come.

Nature is the cornerstone of humanity, supporting ecosystems, biodiversity, climate regulation and human health.

Our industries, economies and communities are all deeply connected to natural systems. The World Economic Forum estimates that around £33 trillion of economic value generation is moderately or highly dependent on nature, which is more than half of global GDP. This highlights the importance of assessing, preserving and restoring ecosystems, ensuring natural habitats and the species living in them continue to thrive.

Our industry-leading specialists have extensive technical and sector-wide expertise from terrestrial, aquatic and marine ecology solutions to arboriculture and forestry. We utilise innovative solutions and approaches to solve our clients’ most complex problems, shaping vibrant places to advance humanity.

As population growth, urbanisation and climate change continue to intensify, there is a huge opportunity to utilise nature-inclusive design to unlock new value on projects, deliver against evolving environmental requirements and support sustainable growth. WSP is at the forefront of this transition, employing innovative digital solutions and new ways of thinking to ensure our clients stay ahead in an ever-evolving world.

Terrestrial ecology and ornithology

Terrestrial ecology and ornithology are under huge pressure due to competing land uses and the need to deliver and upgrade infrastructure for economic development. Our terrestrial ecology and ornithology services are dedicated to safeguarding and enhancing biodiversity both globally and within the UK. We specialise in delivering comprehensive ecological assessments and innovative solutions that promote sustainable development while preserving natural habitats.

Our team of experts collaborates with clients, through ecological survey and assessment, environmental clerk of works, environmental due diligence and environmental management and assessment, to ensure that infrastructure and development projects align with environmental regulations and conservation goals, contributing to the protection of diverse ecosystems and species for future generations.

Aquatic ecology

Aquatic ecosystems are some of the most vulnerable to change with pollution from agricultural runoff, industrial discharges and urban waste all posing significant risk to aquatic ecology.  We work with clients to find optimal solutions that aim to reduce impacts and positively benefit aquatic habitats. Our comprehensive expertise spans freshwater ecology, advanced research capabilities and full project lifecycle, as well as marine project support, in-depth ecological surveys, holistic environmental assessments, and addressing emerging concerns.
