When I first joined WSP, Building Information Modelling (BIM) was often seen by clients as merely a “tick box” exercise. However, this perception has shifted dramatically. Today, both clients and design teams recognise the comprehensive benefits offered by BIM and are eager to explore its full potential. Clients frequently approach us saying, "We have all this asset data; how can we leverage it further?" This growing adoption of modelling and information management is helping clients better navigate and resolve challenges in design and construction, enhancing programme surety and risk mitigation.
Additionally, these solutions have evolved to contribute to sustainability by cataloguing materials for reuse and recycling during demolition. It can also make sites safer. Construction is inherently dangerous, and despite our best efforts, workers are always at risk of injury. Digital models can be used to identify and eliminate risks in advance, helping to protect those on site.
It's been fulfilling to see the real impact digital transformation can have on project design and delivery – I feel like I’m making a difference and helping to protect people on sites.
