Leading multi-disciplinary professional services consultancy WSP has completed the acquisition of 1A Ingenieros, a 250-employee Spanish consulting firm, which operates mainly in the power and energy sectors.
The acquisition aligns with WSP’s strategic focus to grow its business across the EMEIA region, boosting its capabilities with a balanced portfolio in the three core markets — Transportation and Infrastructure, Power and Energy, Property and Buildings, and presence in Earth and Environment.
In some EMEIA countries, including the UK, WSP already has a substantial multi-disciplinary professional services business across these key markets, which has grown considerably in recent years in key sectors such as water, energy and environment, with significant expansion of its advisory services offering. This growth also led to the firm becoming the largest environmental consultancy in the UK. The acquisition of 1A Ingenieros follows this pattern as WSP strengthens its presence further across the wider EMEIA region.
Alexandre L’Heureux, President & Chief Executive Officer at WSP Global, said: “As the energy transition and the drive towards carbon neutrality remain top of mind, the acquisition of 1A Ingenieros will enable us to further support our clients' growing power needs and will unlock more opportunities for WSP in this strategic sector."
Mark Naysmith, President & Chief Executive Officer for EMEIA at WSP, said: “We are delighted to welcome our new colleagues from 1A Ingenieros who bring with them a deepened pool of expertise in the growing power and energy sector, including additional capabilities in transmission and distribution. This acquisition aligns with our strategic ambition, as WSP continues to increase its delivery of critical energy transition projects.”
Ricardo Fortuoso Martin, President of 1A Ingenieros, said: “We are looking forward to combining our local expertise with WSP’s global reach, driving innovation and opening new opportunities. The acquisition celebrates collaboration to nurture professional growth and pave the way for future success for our people.”
